What, currently, is your greatest challenge?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 14, 2007:

Having to do dialysis every single day is my biggest challenge.  My kidneys don't work, and despite many attempts to stay on hemo-dialysis, which is only done three days a week, I was forced to switch to in-home dialysis.  I hate it.  I have to hook myself up to a machine every night for ten hours.  I should be grateful, and I am to some extent.  I could have been born a hundred years ago and I would be dead by now.  It does have it's perks, too, I can shower, and I can travel, neither of which I could do on hemo.  But when I go visit my boyfriend every weekend I have to lug a forty pound machine with me, along with enough supplies to last the weekend.  Dozens of feet of tubing, 30 liters of dialysis fluid, plus all the little extras like caps and masks and what-not.  Thangs just haven't been great for me this year, and I've been on the transplant list for three years.  I want a kidney.

I think the tastiest thing ever is an ice-cold glass of skim milk on a hot day.

What's the most fortunate thing you've had happen to you?

My oldest sister Pam gave me a kidney after mine had failed.  I am fortunate it lasted three years.  Some people would be disappointed but it could have not worked at all.  Or I could have a less generous and caring family.
